Five Steps to a Permit

1. Create Your Account

The CRNA’s online portal, College Connect, gives you easy access to apply for a practice permit — any time, anywhere. To start your account:

• Tell us who you are by validating your identity
• Build your profile
• Pay an account creation fee

You can check the status of your application at any time in College Connect.

2. Confirm Competency

There are multiple pathways to choose from to confirm that you have the competence to practise.

Once the CRNA receives this information, the review may take up to two business days.

3. Demonstrate Your Eligibility

The CRNA has clear expectations for safe and effective practice. To register in Alberta:

• Meet the currency of practice requirement
• Meet the English language proficiency requirement
• Meet the post-secondary education requirement
• Complete a criminal record check online
• You’re required to attest to the truth of your information
• Answer questions about character and your fitness to practise eligibility

4. Prepare for Practice in Alberta

Alberta has specific requirements to complete before you can practise in the province.

• Complete the Alberta Jurisprudence and Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Misconduct courses
• Purchase professional liability protection

5. Pay and Declare

To complete and submit your application:

• Make payment through convenient options provided
• Review your application and confirm its accuracy

Once all the completed items are received, the CRNA will ensure that all requirements to practise are met, and you’ll be welcomed to the register.
