About the College and Regulatory Committees

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is a health profession regulatory college. It has been delegated the authority under the Health Professions Act (HPA) to regulate Alberta’s registered nurses, nurse practitioners, certified graduate nurses, graduate nurses and graduate nurse practitioners.

The responsibilities of regulatory colleges, according to the HPA, are to protect the public and hold registrants accountable for the care they provide. As such, the CRNA’s regulatory responsibilities include:

  • Approving education programs for entry into the profession
  • Setting registration and registration renewal requirements
  • Setting, maintaining and enforcing practice, conduct and ethical standards for the care registrants provide
  • Setting continuing competence requirements for registrants to maintain competency in their practice over time
  • Receiving, investigating and addressing complaints
  • Holding registrants accountable for their practice and behaviour
    Maintaining a public register

Information on each regulatory committee can be found in committee charters (mandates):

Regulatory committee members are expected to:

  • Fulfil term of appointment for three (3) years, commencing Oct. 1, 2026, and expiring Sept. 30, 2029.
  • Be available for meetings - the frequency of meetings and time commitment for each regulatory committee varies and the commitment will be discussed with individuals during the application process.
  • Access online materials and conference calls, ideal members are comfortable using a computer (specifically Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams) and have a stable internet connection.
  • Ensure their personal interests do not interfere with their duties as a committee member. The CRNA’s Conflict of Interest Protocol outlines the CRNA's requirements and disclosure process.

Ready to Apply?

You will need to:

  • Complete an expression of interest application
  • Submit a current resumé

All expression of interest applications must be submitted online through the CRNA website, linked below.

IMPORTANT:
The expression of interest application will ask you to:

  • Provide your contact information
  • Introduce yourself
  • Self-evaluate against a list of competencies and attributes* – this includes ranking yourself on a scale of 1 to 5 for each competency and providing details to support your self-ranking
  • Submit your current resumé

*The desired competencies and attributes are what the regulatory committee should possess as a group. Do not be discouraged from applying if you only possess a few competencies and attributes - they may be exactly what the regulatory committee is looking for. Everyone will possess a select few and contribute to the collective body.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN, please ensure you:

  • Set aside at least 45 minutes to complete the expression of interest application, as it must be completed in one sitting. You cannot save and return later.
