Registered Nurse | Return to Practice

Have you previously held a permit in Alberta as a registered nurse (RN)? To return to practice, you will need to complete this application.

Who Can Apply Using This Application? 

Before proceeding, you should: 

  • Want to practice as an RN in Alberta 
  • Have previously held an RN permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)  
  • Be returning to practice from another jurisdiction, a leave or applying for a permit past the renewal deadline 

What Will I Need to Complete the Application? 

Some steps may be waived if your CRNA records meet the requirements.

There may be additional fees for: 

  • Membership with the Alberta Association of Nurses to benefit from their group rate of professional liability protection
  • Verification fees from another jurisdiction 
  • Applying to and completing the Bridge to Canadian Nursing Certificate from MacEwan University

Once the CRNA receives all the completed items, the processing time is four to six weeks. You can check the status of your application at any time inside of College Connect.

If you have previously created an account with the CRNA, you do not need to pay the assessment fee again. Contact the CRNA to start this application.
