Nurse Practitioner | Return to Practice

Have you previously held a permit in Alberta as a nurse practitioner (NP)? You will need to complete this application to return to practice. 

Who Can Apply Using This Application?

Before proceeding, you should:  

  • Want to practice as an NP in Alberta 
  • Have previously held an NP permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)  
  • Be returning to practice from another jurisdiction, a leave or applying for a permit past the renewal deadline 

What Will I Need to Complete the Application?  

Some steps may be waived if your CRNA records meet the requirements.

There may be additional fees for:  

  • Membership with the Alberta Association of Nurses to benefit from their group rate of professional liability protection
  • $504.00 for your permit once your application is complete and you are not already a registrant
  • Verification fees from another jurisdiction 

Once the CRNA receives all the completed items, the processing time is four to six weeks. You can check the status of your application at any time inside of College Connect.

If you have previously created an account with the CRNA, you do not need to pay the assessment fee again. Contact the CRNA to start this application.
