Renewal for the 2025-2026 practice year is closed. Registered nurses (RNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) must have 2025-2026 permits from the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) to practise in the province between Oct. 1, 2025 and Sept. 30, 2026.

Following the renewal period, the CRNA provides a list directly to employers with the names of individuals whose permits have expired. Employers have an obligation to report any employees licensed by the CRNA who are not meeting the standards that apply to their practice, including those who may be practising with an expired permit.

Use the CRNA’s Employer Lookup to verify an individual’s permit status at any time.

If an employee is practising with an expired permit, submit a formal complaint to the CRNA. All complaints received are reviewed according to our complaints management process.

Note: some renewal applications may require further review by the CRNA, extending beyond the renewal deadline. Impacted registrants are eligible to continue practising until the CRNA makes a decision on their renewal application. Registrants whose applications are under review received an email from the CRNA to provide to their employer as confirmation of their eligibility to practise in Alberta.

The CRNA's office will be closed on Oct. 13 in observance of Thanksgiving. During this closure, applicants and registrants can still access their accounts at any time through College Connect. Employers may also access the Find a Nurse tool at any time.
