Returning to Practice

August 1, 2026

Individuals on the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta’s (CRNA) non-practising register and former registrants looking to return to practice as a registered nurse (RN) or a nurse practitioner (NP) must complete a Return to Practice application. This can be done at any time during the practice year.

To be eligible to apply to return to practice in Alberta, individuals must have previously held a practice permit with the CRNA. The return to practice application is intended for individuals who were previously registered with the CRNA who are:

  • Returning to Alberta from another jurisdiction
  • Returning from a leave
  • Applying for a permit past the renewal deadline

Before beginning the application process to return to practice, please ensure you have all the necessary information and can meet the registration requirements. Information specific to your designation can be found at one of the links below.
