2026-2027 Renewal is Open

August 1, 2026

The annual permit renewal period is open for registrants of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

CRNA registrants must renew their permits on an annual basis, between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, to continue practising in Alberta. In order to renew their permits, CRNA registrants must:

Once reviewed, if a registrant’s renewal application is approved, they can continue practising in the 2026-2027 practice year which runs from Oct. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2027. If a permit is denied or expires due to non-renewal, the individual can no longer practise under a protected title in Alberta.

Anyone can verify a CRNA registrant’s permit status by using the Verify a Nurse tool. By entering a registrant’s name, the tool retrieves details such as their current registration status, licence type and any conditions, authorizations or restrictions on their permit. It also displays whether there are any complaint decisions or disciplinary actions associated with their registration, ensuring transparency and public trust in nursing professionals.

Renewal is a requirement in the Health Professions Act and it is one way the CRNA uses Right-touch relational regulation to protect the public and ensure registrants continue to maintain the requirements to provide safe, competent and ethical care.
