This practice advice provides guidance to registered nurses (RNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) on the safe, ethical and professional use of artificial intelligence (AI). The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) AI practice advice document outlines ten principles to facilitate informed, evidence-based adoption and use of AI that aligns with regulatory standards, code of ethics and patient centered care. AI, and all forms of digital health, should enhance—not replace—the human connection at the heart of registrant practice and clinical judgment. The purpose of this document is to provide information and guidance in the use and adoption of AI through principles that will help ensure safe and responsible use of AI across practice settings.
