Code of Ethics

A clear, practical guide outlining the ethical values and responsibilities for nurses in Canada.

Until our own Code of Ethics is finalized and approved, all CRNA registrants must follow the 2017 Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses as the guiding framework for ethical practice. This ensures continuity in upholding professional values such as integrity, accountability, and respect for client dignity.

The Code of Ethics serves as a guide for ethical relationships, behaviors, and decision-making in nursing practice. It is designed to be used alongside professional standards, best practices, research, and applicable laws and regulations. The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to support nurses in addressing ethical challenges that arise when caring for individuals and collaborating with colleagues across nursing and other health-care fields.

The Code of Ethics applies to nurses in all practice settings and roles—including clinical care, education, administration, research, and policy—and at every level of decision-making.
